You’ve been making your voice heard, and we’ve been listening! Take a look at what we’ve been up to turn your ideas into Winchester wins!

You Said – “We want more events and activities at WSA.”

Winchester Win: We’ve organised a whole host of day and night time events to cater to all tastes. From Shetland Teas to regular favourites such as the Quiz and Curry socials, there is something for everyone!

We also arranged an entire programme of new events throughout Freshers’ at WSA, including the popular ‘Meet the Guide Dogs’ event – especially requested by WSA students.

Looking ahead, there is still plenty more to look forward to, with our Saints and Sinners Ball coming up this Valentine’s, plus a Summer Ball and Summer BBQ on the cards for later this year. And don’t forget on 8th February, we’ll be celebrating Chinese New Year at the WSA Café, where you can expect dumplings, sweets, snacks and much more!

You Said – “Improve the representation at WSA.”

Winchester Win: We created the new role of Winchester Campus President and, in October, you elected Ryan Notman-Watt to fill the position. We also held the most successful course rep elections at WSA, when 28 students became course reps – more than double the total for the previous year. This means you now have a strong platform to represent your voice and your views, be it academic, social or otherwise.

All new this year, we’re also creating a WSA Committee to provide greater support and representation for WSA students across a number of issues. You will have the chance to elect the members of this new committee in the Spring Elections. Find out more here.

You Said – “We don’t have enough resources and support at WSA.”

Winchester Win: We provided new equipment for students, including bean bags, plasma screen, games and craft equipment, so you now have a greater range of resources to enjoy while you’re taking time out from studies.

We employed Student Support Staff and you have face to face contact with dedicated WSA Union staff, who are able to support you on a wide range of issues. We also recently ran our ‘You Are More Than’ campaign at WSA to offer support and ways to cope during hand-ins and stressful periods of work.

You Said – “We need flexible working opportunities while we study at Winchester.”

Winchester Win: We recruited a dedicated Winchester-based team known as the ‘Winchester Crew’ to promote Union activities at WSA. We also have a team of Design Crew members who study at WSA to assist with our campaigns. This means you have plenty of opportunities to earn money and gain additional experience while you study.

You Said – “Improve how you communicate with us at WSA.”

Winchester Win: We established an official Facebook page for The Union – Winchester, and you benefit from regular visits from our Sabbatical Officers and Communications staff to keep you in the loop with everything that is happening.  We have also hired a dedicated Insight Manager to understand you better, and have been working in partnership with the University to improve teaching and support for International students.

You Said – “Improve transport services between Southampton and WSA.”

Winchester Win: We introduced the Shuttle Bus, a free service operating between WSA and Highfield campuses, Monday-Friday during term time from 8am to 8pm. This means there is greater connection between campuses and you are able to attend events at both locations.
