The Union Enterprise Fund exists to help you fund original and innovative events, activities and projects. Submit an idea for the chance to receive £500 in funding.

How will it help me?

In May last year, University of Southampton student, Andreas Ostrovsky received a £300 investment towards prototypes for his sustainable fishing project, ‘Right Light Technologies’. A year on and Andreas’ business is going from strength to strength, having presented his business to the United Nations to help create an environmentally and economically sustainable fishing industry.

Andreas says, “The Enterprise Fund was an incredible opportunity to further my project idea. Not only was it a good opportunity for me to experience pitching in front of judges and get comfortable presenting my project, but the money awarded allowed me to take my product idea from concept phase to the actual prototype phase. With prototypes in hand, I have now been able to further my research, product development, and business plan, and have taken my project to new heights from pitching for funding at University to presenting my project at the United Nations as part of Action Plan 001 to tackle the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Vice-President Engagement, Dan Varley says, “The Enterprise Fund is a relatively new union initiative, but it just shows the impact that schemes likes this can have on a business start-up. I’m proud to see students taking ownership of their ideas and making them happen! I hope that this will encourage more students to take their ideas to the next level and consider turning them into a business”.

Here’s Andreas now, trialling his projects in Tanzania…
