Roll up, roll up for the greatest show on earth.

Tomorrow the Union’s Magic Society are putting on a magic show for one night only at The Annex Theatre.

The student group will be performing a series of tricks set in the mysterious Museum of Magic, a place where history comes to life. The show promises to take the audience on a journey through some of the greatest illusions of all time, starting off in Egypt with the world’s oldest magic trick and weaving through history to the modern day.

According to the society’s Secretary, James Easton, the performance is set to include “appearances from Medieval torturers, Victorian surgeons and a man who believes he is the messiah. Be prepared that things may get a little bit gory at times (the Victorians weren’t the most highly trained medical professionals after all)”.

James explains, “I’m really excited for Tuesday’s show because it is the first stage show that MagicSoc has staged in nearly three years. We have gathered together an incredibly talented group of magicians who I know are going to deliver an amazing performance. I myself am performing in the show – look out for me in the medieval times – but be warned as my act might be rather hard to swallow”.

Although the society isn’t directly affiliated with the Magic Circle, some members of the society have gone on to have professional careers in magic.

Students can get tickets for the special price of £5, with Performing Arts Society members getting an additional £1 off. Members of the public are also welcome, with tickets available for £6 from our Box Office at www.unionsouthampton.org/boxoffice.
